A travelling ticket examiner (TTE) in an inebriated condition allegedly harassed a young girl (aged around 20-21 years) travelling by the 13071 Howrah Jamalpur Super Express sexually early on Sunday.

The girl, who was returning to Jamalpur from Howrah, reported the matter to Mohit Sinha, Malda divisional railway manager of Eastern Railway, over phone.

He, in turn, sounded the assistant commercial manager of Bhagalpur A.K. Meena.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that TTE Kishore Kumar entered the air-conditioned bogey around 2.30am and inquired about her ticket.

She provided him the ticket but he returned thrice to check the ticket.

The TTE, who was allegedly drunk, rebuked other passengers when they tried to intervene.

However, a few passengers mustered courage and reported his indecent behaviour to the divisional railway manager through a text message.

The TTE left only after some other railway staff persuaded him to move to another bogey.

Assistant commercial manager of Bhagalpur Meena said he has received directive from the divisional railway manager to look into the allegations levelled against the TTE.

"The report will be submitted to the divisional railway manager soon," he said, adding that other TTEs on duty would be contacted to verify the allegations against Kishor.

Meena said disciplinary action would be initiated against the accused on the basis of the report. Kishore, a resident of Patna, could not be contacted for comment.

About eight months ago, another TTE, identified as N.K. Ojha, was put under suspension after similar allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against him.

Ojha had allegedly misbehaved with a woman passenger travelling on the 14056 Brahmaputra Mail. Later, he was assigned duty at the railway station.

Railway employees are reportedly disturbed by rising incidents of sexual harassment on running trains, a senior railway official said.

"At least five such incidents have been reported under the division in the past year," the officer said.
