Studies took a backseat at Magadh Mahila College on Tuesday as students put on dance shoes and walked the ramp at the freshers’ day programme.
While the ramp walk was the highlight of the day, the cultural programme by the freshers on the occasion also received applause.
The venue was decorated with colourful balloons. While cultural events added depth to the programme, the jazzy music played during the performances gave that extra zing.
Muskaan Kumari, a Part I student of physics presented a hip-hop dance, Shubhra Rani, a Part I English (honours) student captivated the audience with her song Dhunki Lage from the movie Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Kolaveri Di by Rajni Kumari, a Part I student of history, and Chikni Chameli by Simrandeep, a Part I student of English received huge cheers from the audience.
Zoology department student Naveli Gupta clinched the Miss Fresher 2012 title and Priyadarshini and Shilpi Ranjan were adjudged the first and second runners up respectively.
The judges for the event comprised college teachers Neema of the economics department, Anju Srivastava, the head of the department and Poonam, a teacher of botany department.
“The college was an altogether different place today (Tuesday). Everybody was cheering for us and it felt absolutely amazing. The competition was very tough. Many students took part in the ramp walk and we just had to give our best. At the end of it all, it feels great to have come on top of such a tough competition,” Naveli told The Telegraph.
