The state transport department has signed a memorandum of understanding with Agro Impacts Private Limited to start manufacturing and issuing high security registration plates for new vehicles in the state from April 30.
State transport commissioner Rahul Singh told The Telegraph on Tuesday: “The transport department has signed a memorandum of understanding with Agro Impacts Private Limited for the manufacturing and supply of high security registration plates in Bihar from April 30. Agro Impacts Private Limited was the second lowest bidder for the tender issued to select the firm for the project.”
He added: “M/s DD Industries Limited has got the project from the department following a single tender process according to the directives of the Supreme Court. Agro Impacts Private Limited has been asked to ensure that the new vehicles are issued the high security registration plates within two days of application.”
The transport department had on March 26 slapped a showcause notice on DD Industries Limited, a Delhi-based firm, for failing to set up at least six embossing stations by March 31 and all affixation stations by March 30.
DD Industries Limited was selected following an order of the Supreme Court dated February 7, 2012, to start issuing high security registration plates. The apex court, under the case number WP(C) No. 510 of 2005, had directed various states and Union territories to start the process of installing high security registration plates for new vehicles by April 30, 2012, and for old vehicles by June 15.
