The father of the 10-year-old girl, whom a young man tried to abduct from the Kendriya Vidyalaya premises in Kankerbagh on Tuesday, is peeved over what he calls the school's lackadaisical approach.
"It is the responsibility of the school administration to provide security for the students. If someone could try and abduct my daughter, they should have reported the matter to the police but they didn't," he said on Wednesday.
The girl's father had registered an FIR with the local police based on which the young man was arrested on Tuesday.
The father also demanded introduction of a card system for parents that should be produced when one tries to enter the school premises. "Had such a system been in place, the man who tried to abduct my daughter, wouldn't have been able to enter the school premises," he said.
On Saturday, another minor girl of the school faced a similar situation with the same man, identified as Piyush Kumar (24), tried to persuade her to come along with him. The girl was present on the school campus when she was made the offer. When the girl resisted the move, Piyush fled from the spot.
The girl's maternal uncle said: "When she told us about the incident, we took it casually. We thought someone played prank and didn't bother to lodge an FIR. On Tuesday, she saw the same person trying to persuade the other girl to come along with him. She immediately recognised the person and raised an alarm along with the victim."
School authorities didn't wish to comment on the issue.
When The Telegraph visited the school on Wednesday, principal Sudhakar Singh refused to meet. Several phone calls made to him went unanswered. Finally, when his personal assistant picked up the call, he informed that the principal had gone for a meeting leaving the phone behind.
The police, meanwhile, told The Telegraph that Piyush was a habitual offender and was sent to jail on Wednesday.
"The police spoke with Piyush's family, who said he wasn't mentally stable," said Patrakar Nagar additional station house officer Sanjay Kumar. "However, the police didn't think so as investigations prove that the man has a habit to persuade young girls to come along with him. There have been verbal complaints against the man as well."
Psychiatrists said incidents like these had a bad impact on the victim.
"Molestation, kidnapping and stalking often put the victim in great mental and social trauma," said psychiatrist Vinay Kumar. "The victim loses confidence and is scared to interact with others. Counselling, encouragement and psychological support from the family, school and the society helps the victim
The girl's father said she was a bit disturbed following Tuesday's incident. "We sent her to school on Wednesday so that she feels normal in the company of her school friends," he said.
