Patna, Sept. 30: This year, strict entry regulation would mark the foundation day function of Patna University. Only students and invitees would be allowed inside the venue — Wheeler Senate Hall — on Saturday.

Apart from police personnel, security personnel in civil dress would man the entrance gates of the hall. The PU administration decided to strengthen the security at the function apprehending trouble from some students not given permission by the varsity to attend the function.

The possible troublemakers include the three students who misbehaved with PU vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh in his official chamber in August. Despite the university’s strict instruction to Pirbhore police to nab the trio, nothing had been done yet. The culprits are still roaming free.

Singh told The Telegraph: “We had instructed the local police station to nab the three persons who misbehaved with me at my official chamber. But the trio are roaming freely.”

The PU officials are also apprehending that some hostel boarders could create a scene at the function because the varsity administration decided to take strict action against the illegal occupants at the varsity hostels.

The PU administration directed the hostel boarders to fill up five sets of self-declarations forms. One copy each has to be submitted to the respective police station, vice-chancellor’s office, proctor, dean, students’ welfare and the warden of the hostel concerned. The steps have been taken to identify the illegal boarders occupying the hostel rooms for years.

Besides the strict security measures, the varsity administration’s decision to felicitate students and retired teachers would be the significant part of the foundation day function.

The varsity, on its 95th foundation day, would felicitate 10 retired teachers for their contribution to the varsity in academic improvement. They superannuated before 1990. The 10 selected retired teachers are Dasrath Mandal, R.P. Sinha, C.M. Srivastva, D.N. Ojha, Lalji Prasad, Damodar Thakur, N.L. Nadda, Kalim Aziz, Kumar Vimal and Rambhujhawan Singh.

The varsity would also felicitate the subject-wise toppers in the undergraduate streams this year for the first time.

Established on October 1, 1917, the seventh oldest university in the country has been felicitating its postgraduate toppers at its foundation day function over the years. This time, the graduates would also have the golden glory at the annual.

“For the first time, the university will felicitate the subject-wise toppers at the undergraduate level with certificates and gold medals. The honour will be for those excelling in all the 39 undergraduate subjects under BA, BCom, BSc and vocational curriculum under the university,” P.K. Poddar, the dean of the students’ welfare, Patna University, had told The Telegraph.
