Patna: Aspiring engineering students exulted late on Monday evening as the IIT-main examination 2018 results were announced, bringing to them news that they had a last hurdle to pass.

The Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the main exam in April. Next up for the students is the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) to be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur on May 20.

Total 54,000 students had appeared in the exam from Bihar. The exam comprises physics, chemistry and mathematics papers with a total of 360 marks.

Rahmani 30, an IIT mentoring institute for students from the minority community, announced 100 per cent results as all 23 aspirants cleared the exam.

Arshad Warsi scored 278 marks and secured an All India Rank 65 in the OBC category, and 602 in the general category.

Abhayanand Super 30 announced that 26 of its 29 aspirants had cleared the examination. "We make a pre-result announcement in which we declare the names of those candidates who are going to pass the exam according to our analysis based on the probable score," said former DGP and IIT exam mentor Abhayanand.

"It's a remarkable achievement. We hope to repeat this success again in the upcoming IIT Advanced exam. We nourish and mentor those who do not have access to resources that students from well-off families have," Abhayanand added.

Prem Kumar from Abhayanand Super 30 scored 251 marks out of 360 with a 1487th All India Rank. Ravi Kumar Suman secured 35th rank in SC category and Satyesh Raj 30th rank in person with disabilities category.

The students are from the second batch of IIT aspirants admitted in Abhayanand's Super 30 since April 2015.

"We provide free tutorial to underprivileged minority students so that they contribute to national development," said Shabbirul Hoda from Rahmani 30.

The institute was started in 2008 by Munger-based Rahmani Foundation to provide a platform to meritorious Muslim students to get enrolled in IITs.
