Darbhanga, June 5: Colleges here turned green — not green with envy but depicting the green environment.
An initiative to keep the environment clean and green, afforestation drives were carried out on the premises of Nagendra Jha Women’s College and CM Law College today. Organised by Dr Prabhat Das Foundation of Darbhanga, saplings were provided to the colleges free of cost.
The programme co-ordinator of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, Dr R.N. Chaurasia was the chief guest at the afforestation programme at Nagendra Jha Women’s College. He told The Telegraph: “Human interference in nature has brought imbalance in environment, leading to pollution. It needs people’s attention to save the environment. Steps to make the environment sustainable and balanced must be taken. These afforestation drives in the different colleges is the outcome of that step.”
Dharmasheela Gupta, a faculty member of Nagendra Jha Women’s College, said: “Planting trees not only makes the environment fresh but also adorns the college premises. The students and employees of the college can also reap the benefits of being in a pleasant environment.”
State co-ordinator of Dr Prabhat Das Foundation, Mukesh Kumar Jha, said with the help of volunteers, particularly girls from National Service Scheme (NSS), afforestation drives were carried out in the twon’s colleges. Jha said his commitment towards planting trees on the premises of every college under Lalit Narayan Mithila University.
Priyanka, an NSS activist who was part of the World Environment Day programmes today, expressed her satisfaction over her contribution in cleaning up the environment.
