In a bid to hasten the investigation process, the state police would introduce the DNA test facility in Patna within three months. A machine priced at Rs 2 crore for conducting the tests would be installed at the state forensic science laboratory.

Director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand said: “The machine installation process will be complete within two months.” The test facility would be available in about three months.

“As the state police do not have this facility, the samples for DNA test are sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad. As a result, the investigation of important cases get delayed,” he said.

“We will have to face problems initially. But the company supplying the machine provides training to the personnel assigned the task to handle it,” the DGP said.

Abhayanand said the personnel of the state forensic science laboratory underwent training at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory on the DNA tests.

He said: “We will start with basic tests. Blood identification and serum analysis would be started first.”

Abhayanand said the state police had also purchased voice spectrograph at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.

“The system will help the police analyse the voice of the accused recorded for investigation. The recorded voice will be matched with that of the original ones after their arrest. Subsequently, it will be produced as evidence in the court,” he added.
