Patna, Oct. 15: The Bihar unit of Akhil Bharatiya Quami Tanzim, led by Rajya Sabha member Tariq Anwar, today staged a sit-in here to press for the implementation of various welfare schemes, including Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission’s recommendation for 10 per cent quota to Muslims.
Anwar, national president of Tanzim, vociferously demanded from the state government quota for Muslims in education and employment, appointment of Urdu teachers, early setting up of Aligarh Muslim University’s branch at Kishanganj, justice to the Muslims killed in police firing at Bhajanpur village in Forbesganj.
The NCP leader claimed chief minister Nitish Kumar was being dictated by his alliance partner BJP and had adopted a step-motherly treatment towards Muslims. Anwar demanded urgent allotment of land for setting up AMU branch at Kishanganj.
Anwar called Nitish “ghoshna chief minister” (a chief minister who makes only announcements) and said that despite tall claims, of the state government, students from the state are going outside the state for higher studies.
The dharna, organised near the Income Tax roundabout, was “apolitical”, claimed Anwar.
But leaders of several political parties, including RJD general secretary Ram Kripal Yadav and LJP general secretary Satyanand Sharma, were also present at the venue to express their solidarity members of Tanzim.
Anwar said: “Muslims have been lagging behind in every sphere of life such as government jobs, education, social uplift and hence they must be given quota as per Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission’s recommendation. Both the central and the state governments must implement the quota for Muslims to improve their socio-economic situation.”
