The colleges affiliated to Patna University have started gearing up for the admission season. So have Plus Two passouts.

Like the previous year, students would have to take a test for admission to the Patna University colleges. The dates of entrance exams have been finalised. (See graphic)

No two colleges have the same admission test date. The varsity, sources said, did it deliberately to keep options open for the aspirants.

Patna University vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Sinha said: “Like the previous year, admission in undergraduate courses would be given on the basis of the performance in the entrance test. The colleges would prepare their own merit lists.”

Former Patna University vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh had started the admission test system in the colleges in 2012. The varsity had to overcome several hurdles before conducting the entrance exams.

The state government had scrapped the varsity’s decision to hold the entrance examination for admission to the undergraduate courses. Then chancellor, Devanand Konwar, however, gave his consent to conduct the tests.

Patna University is the only varsity in the state to conduct entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses.

This year, Patna Law College would conduct the test first — on June 28. In the rest of the institutions, the exams would be conducted in the first week of July. All colleges have been asked to declare their results by mid-July.

Patna College, one of the oldest institutions in the state, would conduct the entrance test on July 2.

The college principal, Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, said: “The sale of admission forms at Patna College will start on May 31. The last date for submission of forms is June 21.”

Patna Women’s College would conduct the entrance test on July 3, followed by Magadh Mahila College on July 4, BN College on July 5, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya on July 6 and Patna Science College on July 8.

For free and fair admission tests, four sets of question papers would be prepared. Aspiring students would have to answer 100 objective questions, each carrying a mark. (See graphic)

Patna University dean, students’ welfare, K.N. Paswan, said: “The sale of admission forms would start in all the colleges within a week.”

Several colleges, however, have started witnessing rush of aspiring students from the last week. “Some of them are enquiring about the admission test dates and few want to know when the sale of admission forms would start,” said an official of a college.

Surbhi Chaudhary, an Intermediate passout from College of Commerce, was spotted at Magadh Mahila College on Friday enquiring about the sale of admission forms.

She said: “I shall get admission to College of Commerce easily, but I have come here to keep my options open. Magadh Mahila College is a good institution in the city and so I shall give it a try.”
