The “Blade Man” menace, police claim, is over. But the Patna City residents, especially those staying in the jurisdiction of Khajekala and Chowk police stations, are still shaky.

Residents claimed one slash attack each was reported in the Khajekala and Chowk police station areas on Tuesday. But police termed them publicity stunts.

Rukhaiya Fathma (12) allegedly suffered slash wound again today after Monday’s attack on her wrist. But her family members did not allow her to meet the police, triggering poser on the veracity of the slash-attack claim. The other person reported to have suffered a cut injury was Akhilesh Thakur, a barber. He was attacked on his way home at Joja Toli under the jurisdiction of Chowk police station from the salon he works in. But the police claimed that his shirt had a cut and there was no injury in his body. He could have slashed the shirt while working in his salon, added the police.

Deputy superintendent of police Patna City Sushil Kumar said: “Akhilesh is a barber. He uses blades and scissors in salon. He must have cut his shirt while working.”

Akhilesh told The Telegraph that he had returned home from his salon (both at Joja Toli) for taking his cellphone charger around 10am. “When I came back to the shop my colleagues told me my shirt was slit. I suffered a small wound but it was not there at the time I left the shop. The police were informed but they refused to believe me and scolded me for spreading rumours. My salon owner also asked me to be quiet. Else, I would be inviting trouble for him,” Akhilesh told The Telegraph.

Rukhaiya’s mother, on the other hand, saw a deep cut on her daughter’s left hand around 12noon. But her family members did not allow her to meet the police or reporters.

M.M. Manjhi, the Khajekala police station house officer, told The Telegraph: “We went to her house but the family just refused to talk to us. They did not allow us to talk to the girl either. Aab isme hum kya kareen (Now, what can we do in this condition)?

Rukhaiya’ s father, Shafi Ahmed, refused to talk to reporters. But Ghulam Nabi, a relative of Rukhaiya, said she was attacked. “Rukhaiya was attacked just two days back and went to a clinic in the Gurhatta area on Tuesday to remove the dressing on the wound inflicted on her. When they returned home, a fresh wound was spotted in Rukhaiya’s left arm,” Ahmed said, adding that people were still suffering from an uncanny fear.

Manjhi, however, asked people to be clam. He claimed that he was continuously asking people not to believe in any rumour. “We are thinking about setting up a public address system,” Manjhi said.
