Bikers' gangs involved in loot and snatching in Patna earlier have forayed into even more serious crimes, posing a fresh challenge to police.
Last Tuesday, brothers Narayan Pathak (25) and Vishnu Dutt Pathak, who are temple priests, were sitting in front of their house on Rajeev Nagar road number 17. Just then, two groups of youths led by Shivam and Shubham Jyoti clashed over Amit Giri's love affair with a local girl and shot at the Pathak brothers. The duo underwent treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Though Shivam, Shubham Jyoti and Amit Giri are members of the same biker gang, Boss of Patna, sources said Amit's love interest triggered a spat in the group.
Patna police have arrested Dipak, Karan, Vipul Tiwari, Sumit Singh, Bhaskar Jha and Saurya in the connection but Shivam and Shubham Jyoti are on the run.
Rajiv Nagar police station house officer Mritunjay Kumar said: "Dipak and Karan were arrested on Wednesday, while the four others were arrested on Thursday. The gang mainly operates in the Bailey Road and AG Colony areas."
Shubham Jyoti resides in AG Colony and is the son of an advocate, while Shivam's father is a criminal in Bhojpur district. The duo formed the bikers' gang around six months ago mainly comprising college dropouts.
The gang is involved in snatching, loot and other criminal activities. A police officer said: "As these bikers' gangs work for politicians, they manage to get out on bail."
