Fake job rackets in the state capital have found new victims to prey upon — unsuspecting young women.
A day after a woman was allegedly gangraped in an Exh ibition Road office, police are yet to make a breakthrough.
Last evening, the woman, a resident of Purnea and staying in a rented accommodation in Lohanipur, gave a statement to Gandhi Maidan police that three men had called her to an office at Ashiana Galaxy Marketing Complex on Exhibition Road on Wednesday morning promising her a job. The trio, she alleged, raped her repeatedly before accusing her of theft and shoving her out of office in the evening.
Today, a police officer at Gandhi Maidan police station said the woman had been sent for a medical test but the report was yet to come.
“Whether she was physically assaulted or not has not been confirmed. But the police do not think that she was raped. The medical report, which will confirm whether the crime took place or not, is awaited. She does not know the full names and addresses of the three men and hence, they could not be arrested till now. However, investigations are on and we will nab the accused soon,” the officer said.
Over the past few years, fake job rackets have been luring youths from across the state and beyond with the promise of jobs through newspaper advertisements.
Last year, police busted 15 such rackets, which charge money from youths for facilitating jobs for them.
On March 14 this year, a racket was exposed in SK Puri area after several people were duped of lakhs of rupees with job promises in the merchant navy. The next day, another job racket being run from a Kidwaipuri flat was busted and a man nabbed. “The rural areas of the state have several lowly educated and unemployed youths who can be easily trapped. Most of them publish advertisements in newspapers for trapping them,” a police officer told The Telegraph.
“Job aspirants should just not come down and hand over money the placement agencies ask for. They must first see things nicely and decide and think. The police are always on the lookout for such rackets and information is enough for the cops to just go and check,” the officer said.
