A youth was injured when police opened fire to disperse an unruly mob near RPS turning in Patna on Friday.
The injured, Mukesh Kumar, has been admitted to a private nursing home.
The trouble started around 3pm after a 17-year-old youth identified as Raushan Kumar was found hanging in the sprawling bungalow of a retired IAS officer late Ram Sringar Singh.
The retired IAS officer's son, Keshav Singh, employed Nayatola resident Raushan, as driver. As the news about Raushan's death spread, a number of residents of Nayatola gathered at the former bureaucrat's house and damaged the parked vehicles. They also made an abortive bid to set the house on fire and lynch Keshav, a realtor.
Apprehending trouble, Keshav informed the Rupaspur police which rushed to the spot. The protesters were so aggressive that they didn't allow the police to remove the body and send it to Danapur sadar hospital for post-mortem. The protesters demanded that senior police officers should visit the spot.
The number of protesters swelled with time. Around 4.45pm, the police opened fire to quell the unruly mob. City superintendent of police (central) Chandan Kushwaha confirmed the firing.
The youth Mukesh, also a resident of Nayatola, received bullet injuries in the firing. He was rushed to a Saguna Mor private hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. Mukesh's relative said he was injured in the police firing.
Danapur additional superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar said Keshav had employed Raushan as a driver in June this year.
On Friday, he resumed his duty on Friday morning after three days leave. Around 2pm, his family received information that Mukesh committed suicide.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. City SP Kushwaha described the situation as tense but under control. Sources said 10 rounds were fired to bring the situation under control.
