Patna, Aug. 17: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Ashok Choudhary today demanded that the state government take action against those responsible for the violence at Baddi village in Sasaram on Thursday.

One person was killed and 42 others were injured there following an alleged attack by an upper caste group for defying their diktat not to unfurl the national flag.

Choudhary said: “The state government has failed to protect the people of the Mahadalit community even though it claims to have done a lot. There is a clear-cut difference between its words and actions.”

He added: “The Mahadalit community members had informed the local police station on August 13 in this regard. The next day, they submitted a written application to the superintendent of police to take action and defuse the tension but the police and state machinery did nothing.”

Choudhary was accompan ied by leaders like Prem Chandra Mishra, Vinod Sharma and Chandan Yadav. He added that the Congress had demanded a probe into the meal tragedy in Saran but the state government did nothing other than alleging that there was a political conspiracy to it.

“The government should name the party and persons involved in the conspiracy and take action,” he said.

On the issue of a tie-up, the BPCC chief said: “There is no question of a political alliance with the JD(U) as the party has just floor arrangement and nothing more. Neither the Dal nor the Congress are dependent on each other. We have decided to extend support to JD(U) to weaken the communal forces.”
