Patna: The Chankaya National Law University (CNLU) celebrated its 13th foundation day at Rabindra Bhavan on Friday.

Patna High Court Chief Justice M.R. Shah, who was the chief guest on the occasion, spoke about various career opportunities a person can pursue after getting a law degree. "The profession is not confined to just litigation," Justice Shah said. "A lawyer can now become an expert in cyber law, IT law, environment, company law and others."

The chief justice also had a word of praise for CNLU, established in 2006.

"In a short span of time, the university has attained a bench mark in legal education in the state, but the university has to do a lot in the coming days to become one of the best law universities in the country," he said.

The university, spread across 18 acres in Nyaya Nagar, Mithapur, came into existence in 2006, when it used to run from a transit campus of A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies before shifting to its present campus in 2010.

The university, which imparts five-year BA-LLB and BBA-LLB courses, will from this year launch LLM course. The course is in semester mode and admission will be on the basis of entrance examination with total number of seats in the course being 30.

Justice Anil Kumar Upadhyay of the Patna High Court, who had earlier taught at CNLU, said: "My association with the university is different. The university has in a short span made a mark in legal education, its students winning different court competitions."

University vice-chancellor in-charge, Justice (retired) Mridula Mishra spoke about university students' performance in different judiciary exams.

Around 35 students from different batches cleared the Bihar Judicial Services Examination, results of which were declared last year.

The function was also attended by retired district judge Manoranjan Prasad Srivastava, who is the acting registrar, senior university teacher SP Singh and others. Students also presented cultural activities as part of the function.
