Patna, March 5: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today nominated hotelier Shailendra P. Sinha as the chairman of its Bihar state council, replacing Nirmallya Ghosal.
Sinha’s nomination happened during the annual meet of CII which was attended by almost all 34 members of the trade body’s Bihar state council along with the director of CII eastern region, Dr Saugat Mukherjee, Amit Saraogi was elected vice-chairman. The members were unanimous in their proposal of Sinha’s name as the next chairman of the industry body.
Sinha is the managing director of Bihar Hotels Ltd, which owns the famous hotel, Maurya. Saraogi is the managing director of Anmol Feeds Ltd in Muzaffarpur. “My priorities would be to see how CII can help and assist the state government in carrying out power sector reforms, besides ensuring implementation of the state government’s various policies to promote investments,” Sinha told The Telegraph.
CII also organised a seminar, Goods and Services Tax (GST) — The Way Forward, where speakers favoured the early implementation of GST regime, proposed to be implemented from April 1 this year. It would subsume most indirect taxes like excise duty and services tax at the central level and VAT at the state-level besides local levies.
