The vacations are over and it’s time for students to pack their satchels for a new year in the old school. Does that sound too boring? Not for most of the enthusiastic, fun-loving kids. For them, the new year is full of exciting prospects and opportunities. Smita Kumar spoke to some of the students on their first day in school after the vacations. Here’s what they had to say

Fun as you learn

Apurva Chandra

Class X
Radiant International School

Apurva does not like long lectures. But a poem from her school, which she received on her mobile on January 1, has made her very happy.

Build a dream in the New Year!

And let the dream build you forever!

The New Year has certainly begun on a positive note for her and now she's looking forward to several interesting activities on the school campus. “We shall have lots of sports, educational tours to different places this year,” she says.

“The school is also switching to educom smart classes this year. I am excited about attending these classes,” she adds.

Classes sound fun all of a sudden!

Green gift to school

Nihit Anshu

Class XI
Gyan Niketan

This would be Nihit’s last year in school. He may leave the city too as he wants to pursue higher studies in varsities outside the state. “I want to make Patna a green city. My friends and I would plant lots of saplings this year. This is our green pledge,” he says. So, does he plan to plant saplings on the school campus as well? “If we are allowed to, we will certainly plant a few saplings in our school,” he adds.

About his other plans in the new year, he says: “I will read lots of books and novels. I want to gather as much knowledge as I can before walking out of school.”

Great plan, Nihit. Better be well prepared for the competition ahead.

English dream

Shubhangi

Class VIII
Patna Central School

Shubhangi has decided to make English her first language. “One could say it is like a resolution, but my friends and I want to be as fluent in English as we are in our mother tongue. It would help us academically not just now but even after we pass out from school,” the Class VIII girl says.

But why this sudden resolution? “The school has told us that if we do not converse in English on campus, we will be fined,” she says.

Now we know why you suddenly want to go the English way. All the best Shubhangi!

Biology factor

Rahul Keshari

Class X
St Karen’s Secondary School

Rahul loves biology. He wants to enrol in some coaching classes or take home tuitions to score more in his favourite subject.

“My friends have encouraged me to study the subject in detail,” he says.

Rahul wants to pursue biology even when he passes out from school. His future aim looks clear from the subject of his choice.

In case you join the medical line, don’t forget your place of birth. Bihar needs qualified, specialised doctors to improve its healthcare services.

Celebration times

Kanishka

Class VIII
Radiant International School

For Kanishka, this year is going to be really special, courtesy his school.

“Our school is going to organise a programme to celebrate the state’s 100th birthday. Students from 100 schools would participate in the mega event,” he says.

That is not all. “The event would be celebrated in my school. I will get to know many famous personalities during the programme. Also, a number of students from different schools would converge at one place,” he says, adding that he would participate in a number of events.

The 100-year celebration is something everyone is looking forward to. The New Year certainly seems exciting and engaging.
