Patna, March 27: Exploitation of women is not limited to domestic violence. They face discrimination, harassment at workplace too, said speakers participating in a discussion on efforts of educational institutions in the elimination of inequality faced by women.

The event was organised by Mahila Jagran Kendra on the premises of Patna Youth Hostel, today. Inaugurating the event, Tripurari Sharan, the chairman of Khadi Gramodyog Board of the state government said women need to become self-dependent and oppose the violence against them.

Senior journalist Meera Dutt said: “Economic dependence is also a reason for exploitation of women. Only 27 per cent women in India is employed or economically independent. The figure in Bihar stands at 19 per cent.”

Dutt added: “Working women are also subjected to domestic violence in case they earn less than the male members.” Dutt said women are also discriminated with when it comes to salary payment.
