Patna, Jan. 29: To ensure timely publication of results, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its affiliated schools to submit the marks of internal assessments (classes IX and X) by February 8.

The schools have been asked to send the results of all the four formative assessments (FA) and two summative assessments (SA) of Class IX and FA-I, FA-II and SA-I of Class X by February 8. The marks of SA-II and FA-III and FA-IV of Class X will be sent after the final exams in February.

Earlier, the board had set a January 31 deadline for the submission of the first set of results but after requests by different schools, it extended the final date by eight days.

The board is pressing for early submission of internal assessment results as last year the final results were delayed because of late calculation of marks. Sources said last year, schools were asked to submit the first set of results by the last week of February. The date was later extended to the first week of March. The SA-II and FA-III and FA-IV results of Class X were submitted in April and this delayed the fin-al results by 20-25 days. The results of Patna region were declared on June 10 last year.

The CBSE introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system (CCE) last year in an effort to evaluate the students’ performance all through the year and calculate the marks on the same basis. Under the CCE, four formative assessments and two summative assessments have to be conducted in classes IX and X each.

A CBSE official at Patna regional office said: “Seeing the delay in the Class X results last year, the board is trying to streamline the assessment process this time. Last year, the schools had sent the marks to the board late and therefore the results were delayed.”

The director of May Flo-wer School, J.R. Sharma, said all CBSE schools have been instructed to conduct the school-based SA-II by February 15. This will help the CBSE decla-re the results faster since the marks of both school-based and board-based SA-II have to be announced together. “This year, the results might be out in the last week of May,” Sharma added.
