Patna, Nov. 26: BJP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad today criticised the Congress for not showing a sincere effort for initiating a comprehensive debate on issues like price rise, corruption and black money in Parliament.
“Why is Congress not allowing adjournment motion to hold debate on crucial issues like price rise, corruption and black money? If there is a full-fledged debate followed by voting, it would expose the parties’ positions on these issues. If there can be eight adjournment motions in the previous House, then why can’t Congress allow the motion to debate important issues? This has exposed its apathy towards price rise and corruption,” Prasad told reporters here.
Prasad, who was sharing his experiences after covering 14,000km during the nationwide Jan Chetna Yatra, said: “We received immense support to our campaign against corruption, led by L.K Advani from the public because of their anger against the Congress-led UPA government which has failed to tackle price rise and corruption.”
The Congress government is neither taking any serious and concrete step to contain price rise nor adopting any measure to check corruption, Prasad said.
Training its guns on the Centre, the party chief spokesperson, who is also a noted lawyer of the country, said the UPA’s decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) paving the entry of retail giants like Walmart would virtually ruin the business of small grocers and leave lakhs of people unemployed.
“The Centre has taken the decision under pressure from multi-national companies. This will leave lakhs unemployed. Our service sector, which contributes to around 58 per cent of gross domestic product, is dominated by the retail segment,” the Rajya Sabha member said.
BJP would oppose the Centre’s move tooth and nail and would also chalk out a strategy on ways to fight on the issue inside and outside Parliament, he added.
