Bihar steps up security

Bhagalpur, May 27: Security in eastern Bihar districts, bordering Jharkhand, has been tightened and forces alerted after Chhattisgarh’s mayhem.

It is feared some cadres involved in the mayhem could flee to Bihar’s Jamui or Jharkhand’s Giridih districts.

Bhagalpur police pressed the panic button at Pirpainti. Bhagalpur zone DIG Amit Jain said they had reports of increasing Maoist activity in bordering Jharkhand districts of Sahebganj and Godda. On the night of May 24, over 150 armed rebels took out a candle march villages, bordering Godda and Sahebganj districts of Jharkhand. Intelligence reports said villagers had spotted unidentified men in their areas and late-night meetings had taken place at some villages.
