Car rally through Buddhist circuit

Patna: The Automobile Association of Eastern India will organise a car rally on February 16 in which 35 participants would cover some places of the state’s Buddhist circuit.hristened “Full Tank Eco Run 2013”, the rally would start from Rotary Patna and end at the Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve covering 300km. At a news meet on Wednesday, Amit Mukherjee, the organising secretary of the Full Tank Eco Run committee, said: “The state government is trying to popularise the Buddhist circuit. We just want to compliment the effort. That’s why our rally would cover most of the places in the circuit.”

Varsity meet

Dumraon: The newly nominated vice-chancellor of Veer Kuer Singh University, Ara, Sheo Shankar Singh, on Wednesday pledged to do his best to root out corruption and ensure development in the institute during his regime. Addressing the students and teachers of DK College, Dumraon, a constituent unit of the university, Singh said he was happy to be at the institute, of which he was once a principal.

Life term

Darbhanga: A local court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to four persons — Upendra Sahani, Shambhu Kahar, Haricharan Kahar and Kharha Sahani alias Ranjit Sahani for the 2008 murder of inspecting registrar Sitaram Jha and his wife Kalpana Jha who were hacked to death at their home at Ramkunj village on August 5, 2008.

Kumbh rush

Patna: East Central Railway announced on Wednesday its decision to send three trains of 16 coaches each to Allahabad to cater to the rush of devotees on Vasant Panchami (February 15) at the Maha Kumbh Mela. These trains run on the Patna-Gaya route at present.

Penalty

Patna: Danapur division of East Central Railway conducted random checking at every station under its division on Tuesday and penalised 3,697 passengers for travelling without tickets. As many as 70 passengers were sent to jail for their failure to pay the fine.

Power review

Patna: North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd managing director Sanjay Kumar Agrawal on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the rural electrification work being carried out in Madhepura, Saharsa, Kishanganj, Supaul, Samastipur, Begusarai and Katihar districts under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana. Senior officers and representatives of agencies engaged in rural electrification work in the districts were present at the review meeting.
