Governor names three new VCs

Patna:: Raj Bhavan on Wednesday appointed three vice-chancellors at Magadh University, Nalanda Open University and Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, Patna.

Botany professor of Magadh University Nandjee Kumar has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of Magadh University replacing R.K. Khandelwal, commissioner, Magadh Division, Gaya who was holding the charge of Magadh University.

Syed Jalil Ahmad, University professor of English has been made the vice-chancellor of Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, Patna. Similarly, Dr Munindra Kumar, University professor of Botany is the new vice-chancellor of Nalanda Open University. Dr. ELSN Bala Prasad, divisional commissioner, Patna was holding the additional charge of VCs in both Nalanda Open University and Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University.

Affair whiff in murder

Patna: Police on Wednesday said the murder of one Anil Kumar in the wee hours of July 6 was a result of a well-planned conspiracy. The police said that a criminal, identified as Mani Kumar, had surrendered at the civil court in Patna on July 11 and he was taken on remand by the police. During the interrogation, Mani said that he had received Rs 1.5 lakh from Jai, another registered medical practitioner, for the job. Mani said that Jai hatched the plan to kill Anil for allegedly having an illicit relationship with one of Jai’s family members.

Bribe arrest

Patna: Damodar Sharma, the principal of Government High School at Raghunath in Patna, was arrested by the vigilance bureau on Wednesday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a student Gouravi Ranjan for handing over a bank draft of Rs10,000 awarded to her under the Mukhiya Mantri Poshak Yojna.

Seminar

Patna: Bihar Agriculture Management Extension Training Institute will organise a two-day national seminar on mushroom farming. The seminar will focus on the issues of the farmers and mushroom farming.

Protest

Patna: Members of Rashtriya Lok Samta Party on Wednesday staged a dharna to register their protest against the serial blasts in Bodhgaya and the death of schoolchildren in Saran. Party president Upendra Kushwaha addressed the dharna.

Vaccine

Patna: Medical director of Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living Dr Diwakar Tejaswi on Wednesday said that people over 50 years of age are more prone to diseases like pneumonia as the resistance power of the body declines. He said that a vaccine for pneumonia was available in the market.

Award

Patna: NGO Digital Empowerment Foundation in association with Vodafone has awarded State Health Society and BBC Media Action (earlier known as BBC World Service Trust) for their joint initiative “Mobile Kunji”, a mobile phone technology to disseminate information to the field workers of the healthcare services including Asha workers.

Train stranded

buxar: The Dadar Guwahati Lokmanya Express (UP) remained stranded for at least five hours on Wednesday after its engine developed a snag at Dumraon railway station.
