Bikers rob petrol pump at gunpoint

Glgopalganj: Six criminals robbed Rs 1.5 lakh from a petrol pump in the Salempatti area under the jurisdiction of Uchkagaon police station on Sunday night. An FIR was lodged on Monday.

The manager of the petrol pump, Pankaj Singh, said the men came on two motorbikes and got the tanks filled with fuel worth Rs 500. One of them entered the petrol pump cabin and robbed Rs 1.5 lakh at gunpoint. The petrol pump owner, Daya Kumari, lodged the FIR against the six men on Monday. Investigation is on.

Principal rejoins duty

Chhapra: Parmendra Ranjan, the suspended principal of Jagdam College, rejoined the institution on Monday as the governor stayed his suspension order by JP University, Chhapra, vice-chancellor D.K. Gupta. A fortnight ago, Gupta had suspended the principal on charges of not abiding by the university’s rules and regulations and an FIR for which he had applied for anticipatory bail. Ranjan filed a petition before the governor, who in turn stayed the suspension order and directed the JP University vice-chancellor to submit a report in the matter.

Power bill whip

Patna: The Bihar State Power (Holding) Company on Monday stopped the salaries of all employees of the high-tension cell for their failure to complete cent per cent billing of 736 consumers, said deputy general manager (public relations) H.R. Pandey. The consumers come under the North Bihar Power Distribution Company. Pandey said the decision to stop the salaries was taken at a review meeting chaired by the energy department secretary (and power holding company chairman-cum-managing director) Sandeep Poundrik. High-tension consumers are billed through remote meter reading, but the cell concerned could not complete the process till May 2014.

Cong on cabinet

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Prem Chandra Mishra on Monday said the state should have got more representation in the Narendra Modi-led Union cabinet. He said although it was the internal matter of the BJP, prominent party leaders like C.P. Thakur, Ashwini Choubey, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav, and Giriraj Singh should have been inducted into the council of ministers.

Protest deferred

Ppatna: Patna Nagar Nigam Staff Union has decided to postpone Tuesday’s general meeting and demonstration of employees in front of the civic body headquarters (Maurya Lok). The employees took the decision after a talk with the civic body commissioner on Monday.

Gang arrest

Patna: Three members of a gang involved in selling fake degrees of different educational institutions were arrested from a cyber café in Munnachak, Patna, on Monday. Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said a printer, a scanner and fake certificates of different educational institutions, including a few universities of the state, were seized during the raid. Those arrested have been identified as Indrajeet Kumar and Rakesh Kumar, both residents of Nalanda, and Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Patrakar Nagar in Patna.

Murder cuffs

Patna: Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Digha in Patna, was arrested on Monday for his involvement in a murder case. Ranjit was absconding after the murder of one Bhuwanshwar Rai who was shot dead in February this year. In another incident, two men, identified as Nandu and Shankar, were arrested from Ram Krishna Nagar in connection with the murder of Divyanshu, an employee of a private company.
