Patna, July 25: A fault of a flier from Patna created a flutter at Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport today.
Security personnel swung into action in the afternoon when a bullet was detected in a passenger’s luggage.
The passenger could not produce a licence for the bullet and claimed that he was carrying the bullet “by mistake”.
According to sources at Patna airport, Sumit Kumar, a resident of Patna, was scheduled to board Indigo’s Chennai-bound flight-191 from Patna airport at 2.30pm.
Sumit had booked a ticket for Mumbai and was carrying a bullet in his handbag, which got detected during the luggage screening.
The security personnel at the luggage screening point at the terminal building of Patna airport stopped Sumit from boarding the plane after detecting the bullet in his handbag.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) commandant at Patna airport Anand Saxena however, refused to comment on the incident. CISF handles the security aspects at Patna airport and CISF personnel do the security checks and luggage screening.
Sources in the IndiGo at Patna airport, however, confirmed the incident and claimed that Sumit was not allowed to board the plane.
Moreover, IndiGo sources said that after being caught, Sumit claimed he was carrying the bullet by mistake and he was allowed to leave the airport premises only after his relatives produced a licence for the bullet.
The station house officer of Airport police station on the other hand, informed that no FIR was lodged relating to the incident. Airport sources informed that no person is allowed to travel with any arms or ammunition.
If a person is found with arms/ammunition with respective license then the arms are confiscated by the CISF at Patna airport and handed over to the person on his/her return, when he/ she produces the licence for it. Moreover, if licence for the arms/ammunition is not produced by the person who is found to carry such things, then the person is detained and an FIR is lodged against the person at airport police station.
