Patna, Nov. 18: The state government has decided to award banks, which perform well on loan disbursement front, particularly in the agriculture sector.
The move comes after the government’s repeated attempts to infuse more credit through banking system failed to deliver expected result.
Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while reviewing the performance of loan disbursement under annual credit plan at the state-level bankers’ committee meeting here, said: “We have decided to award banks doing good job vis-à-vis loan disbursement, at district and state-level. We have just taken a policy decision in this regard in today’s meeting. A certain criteria would be fixed to judge the bank’s performance vis-à-vis credit flow.”
Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, said senior officers of various banks would inspect the branches to see the reasons why loans are not advanced or what are the other reasons which prevent the banks from advancing loans.
