This winter, Nicco Park is throwing you a challenge to get lost and then find your way out. Over 700 sq ft, to the right of the main entrance, has come up its latest ride — the Mirror Maze.
Crossing a tunnel that creates an illusion of a vortex that sucks one in, one walks into a web of mini chambers with arches of identical colourful geometrical patterns on all sides that creates bafflement as there appears to be mirrors on all sides, producing an unending series of reflections. You might well be reminded of the last scene of the film Enter the Dragon where Bruce Lee had to track and kill the villain lurking amid the reflections waiting to attack him.
But there is neither danger nor any sinister being in wait in this maze. Its theme is circus. So as the lights change from red to green to blue to the beat of a circus tune, be prepared to be surprised by sudden appearances of clowns or performing seals. “It is not a static maze. There are sensors that pick up visitor presence in the gag cells and trigger those appearances,” smiles Kamalesh Chandra, chief executive officer of PremierWorld, which is best known for making fountains.
While there is one correct way of getting out of the maze there is a loop too which leads you back to the same cell.
“While we can walk out of the maze in three minutes, first-timers may take 10 to 18 minutes to find their way out. The idea is not to panic but have fun,” Chandra added.
The authorities are recommending that small kids be accompanied by adults.
“This is the first time in the park’s 26-year history that we have installed a maze. It is a permanent addition,” said park managing director and CEO Abhijit Dutta. A ticket costs Rs 70.
The maze is right next to the renovated food court that has a game zone at a side to keep kids busy with indoor games like air hockey, hoops etc.
There are two entry packages on offer for the park — one costing Rs 190, which covers entry and some free rides and the other costing Rs 430 which includes almost all rides at both the park and the water park.
