The new ticketing system and flap gates of Metro Railway will be launched by chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Jatin Das Park station on Thursday evening. The existing paper tickets and gates will be phased out.
Presi panel: Sugata Bose, the chairman of the panel of mentors for Presidency University, and chief mentor Amartya Sen will meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, sources told Metro on Wednesday.
Wife murder: A 35-year-old state government employee who allegedly strangulated his wife at their Shibpur home and tried to smuggle out the body in a taxi was caught when its driver alerted neighbours. The cabbie became suspicious while helping Debashis Sarkar carry his “sick” wife, 30-year-old Aronya, to the taxi on Tuesday night. Debashis and his parents were later arrested.
Howrah attack: A 60-year-old priest allegedly attacked a tea stall owner with a kripan at Howrah station on Wednesday after being allegedly refused a pinch of chewing tobacco. Police said Tarsem Singh, a Dum Dum resident, was heading to Amritsar. He was drunk. Bigan Shaw, the stall owner, was admitted to hospital. Singh was arrested.
