Siliguri, March 14: The Railway Protection Force has chalked out a plan to involve vendors, porters, stall owners and common people to keep vigil on passengers at stations under Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway.
Md. Sakeeb, the senior divisional security commissioner of the RPF posted at the Katihar division of the NFR, who visited New Jalpaiguri station today, said: "We want to engage people who are directly or indirectly engaged at the stations to keep vigil on passengers' movement and inform us in case they find anything suspicious. They can also update us on a regular basis about any anti-social activities in and around the station so that we, along with other security agencies, can take necessary steps."
Among these people include porters, stall owners, hawkers, railway employees, workers and even residents living nearby, the official said.
As of now, the exercise to sensitise the people will commence in some of the selected stations under Katihar division. In due course, the RPF plans to rope in such people at most of the stations under the division.
