The state government has identified a 35-acre plot in Rajarhat’s Action Area III that will be offered to the National Security Guard for setting up a hub. Representatives of the elite force will shortly visit the plot.

“A 35-acre plot in Rajarhat has been finalised for the NSG hub. The land will be sold at Rs 5 crore an acre,” said A.G. Ghosh, an officer-on-special duty and special secretary in the home department.

The search for land to set up a regional NSG hub started following the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai, which prompted the Centre to decide on setting up such a facility each in Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The force had initially sought 600 acres to set up the hub that will house extensive training facilities and a shooting range. NSG officials had visited sites shown to them by the state government in Panagarh, Barrackpore, Dankuni, Kaikhali and Jagadishpur in Rajarhat. But none satisfied them.

The force gradually whittled down its requirement from 600 to 50 acres.

“We will visit the site identified by the Bengal government in a day or two before taking a decision,” an NSG official said from Delhi.
