NETAJI REMEMBERED: Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, Krishna Bose and Sugata Bose at a programme in Netaji Research Bureau on the occasion of the 121st birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on Tuesday. Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji had a difference of opinion but the relationship between them was based on mutual affection and respect, Bose, a grandnephew of Netaji, said."We often exaggerate their parting of ways in 1939. They did have a difference of opinion. But in the larger scheme of things, their relationship was based on great affection and mutual respect," the Trinamul MP said. "Exactly 70 years ago, on January 23, 1948 - just seven days before his (Gandhi's) assassination - he (Gandhi) had said no other Indian leader had evoked such affection and loyalty among all Indians as Netaji did."Arup Raha, former air chief marshal, paid tribute to Netaji saying: "Netaji was greater than all generals we have had. We take inspiration from him even now."Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had proposed to the Centre that January 23 be declared a national holiday. "It would be a good gesture if the Centre approves the proposal," the governor said on the sidelines of the programme. Picture by Bishwarup Dutta
