Manna Dey in different ages, moods and situations, was the theme for the four-day exhibition held at Gaganendra Pradarshasala from April 27 to 30. Many of them were from the personal collection of Goutam Roy, a founder member of Manna Dey Sangeet Academy, who was closely associated with the veteran artiste.
“Most of the photographs were taken by me when I visited his home in Mumbai. However, there are some that I have collected from his house,” said Roy. The exhibition was organised to commemorate Dey’s birth anniversary on May 1.
While there were solo photographs of the artiste, there were also 156 collages of his different moods and situations. Group photographs with singers like Lata Mangeskar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and music directors like Sachin Dev Burman and others of Bollywood featured in the collection. Shots of recordings with other playback singers were also seen.
Personal moments from the artiste’s life with his wife, Sulochana spending leisurely hours over lunch or dinner or a photograph from his daughter’s wedding day also featured at the exhibition. “We have collected more than 1.5 lakh photographs of Manna Dey from his house and other sources ,” said Roy.
