Salt Lake: Police arrested a Sector V executive on the charge of molesting a woman in a shuttle cab on Friday morning.
In her complaint with Electronic Complex police station, the woman in her mid-30s said she had asked Suman Bera, who works in a facility management firm in Sector V, to behave properly but he didn't bother.
The woman boarded the shuttle cab to Salt Lake from Parnasree in Behala around 9am. "She was seated behind the driver. Bera and another man boarded the cab later," an officer quoted her as saying in the complaint.
"Bera was seated in the middle. When the cab reached Chingrighata crossing and turned towards Salt Lake, the woman asked Bera to sit properly."
After getting off at College More about 15 minutes later, the woman who works in an IT company raised the alarm.
"She asked Bera to apologise and said she wouldn't let go till he did so. Cops posted nearby heard the commotion and intervened," an officer said. "They asked her to file a formal complaint. Bera was picked up after she agreed to do so."
He was booked under Section 354 of the IPC that deals with assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty. The charge carries a maximum punishment of five year in jail and/or fine.
Bera will be produced in a Salt Lake court on Saturday.
