VIVA LA MARTINIERE The article Facing a century with a brave face (September 17) along with the photograph of my revered teachers stirred many a memory. I was fortunate to have been taught by Mrs Nick, Mrs Job & Mrs Doss. They were strict but also affectionate. The dedication and devotion of the teachers helped shape the careers of students and enabled them to find their feet in the outside world. La Martiniere has armoured me with discipline and knowledge. Students will come and go, but La Martiniere will go on for ever.

Salute to courage

lDebolina and Renuka (Teen duo conquer trauma and taunt, September 12) have made everyone proud with their courage. Hats off to them.

Swagata Guha

Heartiest congratulations to Debolina and Renuka who managed to pass out with flying colours despite all odds. We should never lose courage and confidence in times of adversity.

Neha Sathia,

Dobson Road

No appreciation is good enough for Debolina and Renuka. Both of them have shown that dogged determination can work wonders and all obstacles can be overcome with zeal and willpower. It is a pleasure to know that they were able to defeat all adversities and come out with flying colours. Their acts are worthy of emulation and should act as an eye-opener for others as well. I wish them success in their future endeavours. And many thanks to Metro for publishing such an encouraging article.

Indranil Sanyal,

Kali Bari Lane, Dhakuria

First of all, I would like to congratulate both Debolina and Renuka for their bravery in the face of adversities. I was shocked to learn about Debolina’s condition since we were batchmates some time back at the British Council learning centre. She was cheerful and jovial and never for once did I sense that she was going through any difficulty. As for Renuka, I can understand her trauma since I have had a family member who suffered tremendous mental as well as physical agony from burn injuries. I salute them for their mental toughness and their courage in overcoming obstacles. Good luck for the future!

Arunava Mitra

Both Renuka and Debolina took much pain to attend school and write exams in spite of physical ordeal. I believe they will continue their studies overcoming odds. I salute them for their courage and pray for their recovery.

Jagannath Bhattacharya, New Alipore

Thank you for the article on Debolina and Renuka. Hats off to the girls.

I was amazed to read about the courage and tolerance of Debolina and Renuka. My message to them is that they should not lose heart and continue to face the world with great smile and courage. I hope both of them will achieve success in every stage of life.

Messiah for girls

Let me send my heartfelt thanks to Anuradha Koirala (Looking for peace in a temple, woman finds her calling in anti-trafficking crusade, September 17) for her stupendous act of social reform. Yes, trafficking has become a menace that needs to be controlled and her efforts are definitely commendable. It is not an easy task to provide security to 25,000 girls and she has done a commendable job for which no appreciation is good enough. In today’s world, it is very difficult to find a social reformer like her who has almost singlehandedly managed the show. Let others follow in her footsteps for the betterment of the society.

I. Sanyal,

Dhakuria

I was in tears when I read about Anuradha Koirala. Her life turned against her but she survived and overcame all odds. She is an inspiration.

Mohtashim Ghani

Anuradha Koirala’s crusade against trafficking, braving all obstacles, is exemplary. True grit and empathy have been her strength in her fight against this social evil. She is invincible in her mission and we salute her diehard endeavours in reforming the destiny of many who are exploited and deceived. She inspires us to fight against injustice in any form and never to give up in life. I thank her for being a fairy godmother to so many distressed souls.

Debanjana Roy,

Teacher, Mahadevi Birla World Academy

I thank Metro for publishing such a motivating article to stop the menace of human trafficking. To talk about Anuradha Koirala, the name Anuradha itself signifies “bright star”. Her initiative and positivity to deal with such a crucial issue is commendable beyond words. We all believe in messiahs and angels. She has proved they exist.

Tiasa Basu Roy,

University of Calcutta

Congratulations, great job.

Sanjay Bagaria

Anuradha Koirala’s story was really inspiring. She has been fighting this malice with utmost sincerity. It’s her strong determination and self-belief that helped her achieve so much success. I think every citizen of India would endorse her idea.

Kiran Agarwal,

Dum Dum Road
