Man allegedly kidnapped from home in Thakurpukur, rescued, police arrest five

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was kept confined in a building in Haridevpur, kidnappers demanded Rs 10 lakh from his family over the phone

A man who was allegedly dragged out of his home and kidnapped in an autorickshaw in Thakurpukur was rescued on Friday.

Five people have been arrested in this connection.

According to officers, the kidnappers had demanded 10 lakh for the man’s release.

The accused have been identified as Biswajit Singha, Goutam Pradhan, Payel Pradhan, and Bhabani Singha Pradhan, from Mahishadal in East Midnapore, and Milan Hati, the driver of the autorickshaw, a resident of Haridevpur on the southern fringes of the city.

“The group went to the rented apartment of complainant Uttam Pradhan and demanded 10 lakh. They dragged the complainant’s son into the autorickshaw and sped away after being denied payment,” said an officer of Thakurpukur police station.

Officers of Thakurpukur police station tracked down the kidnappers after the family filed a complaint.

The accused alleged that the complainant owed them the money and claimed that they had lodged a case against him.
