Four men were picked up from a hideout in Bamangachi, on the northern fringe of the city, in connection with the June 16 shootings in Entally that left two youths injured.
One of the arrested men has been identified as Mohammad Bapi, who police said was the leader of one of the gangs involved in the fight.
The other three suspects are Mohammad Kalo, Shamim Ahmed and Shakil Hossain. "All three are Bapi's men," an officer of Entally police station said.
Two men were shot at following a dispute over the sale of an apartment in Bibibagan, off Gobinda Khatik Road, on June 16. Sheikh Aslam was targeted in Bibibagan and Samad Ali Gayen in the nearby Motijheel area.
Three days later, Jamil Sheikh was arrested in connection with the attack on Aslam. Police said Jamil, who was picked up from the Rajdhani Express moments after the train had left Howrah, had paid the building's realtor for an apartment. The same apartment was allegedly sold to another person as well.
"Jamil wanted to take possession of the apartment. After he failed to do so, he sent Bapi and his men to kill Aslam, who had brokered the deal between him and the realtor," the officer said.
Aslam was standing near the building around 12.30pm when six youths on three motorcycles turned up. One of them whipped out a gun and fired at Aslam, who was injured in the leg.
The youths fled leaving behind one of the bikes, which was set on fire by residents of the area. Hours later, Babloo, the leader of the gang with which Aslam was allegedly associated, sent his men on revenge mission.
The gang spotted Gayen, an alleged associate of Bapi, in Motijheel Lane around 2.15pm and fired at him. Gayen suffered a bullet wound in the shoulder.
