Strand Road: Two men checked into Floatel as business executives, went out for work in sharp suits, returned with women and disappeared after continuing with the routine for almost a month.

After the management of the floating hotel on the Hooghly failed to contact the two, they broke into their room to realise they had left with the room's LCD TV.

Their dues: Rs 1.46 lakh.

The two had checked into the hotel early in February and apparently paid some money. They disappeared some time around mid-March.

Initially, the hotel management called on their phones, which apparently remained switched off most of the times.

Hotel employees were sent to the addresses they had given during check-in but couldn't be found.

The hotel lodged a complaint with North Port police station towards the end of March.

A police team zeroed in on the mobile phone tower location of one of them at a Topsia address early on Monday.

Cops raided the place and found Sanjib Sarkar hiding behind a water tank on the rooftop of a building.

Sarkar led the police to Saurav Dasgupta whom he referred to as his "guru", police said.

Dasgupta was picked up from the Ultadanga police station area later in the day.

The two have robbed at least two women in Narkeldanga and Ultadanga of Rs 13 lakh, an officer of North Port police station claimed.

"Dasgupta married a woman in Narkeldanga who was among those who turned up for modelling," an officer of Ultadanga police station said.

"He fleeced her of almost Rs 8 lakh. The two then picked on a woman in Ultadanga... took Rs 4 lakh from her to set the vaastu of her flat right and disappeared," the officer said.

The North Port police station officer said the two had carried the TV set out of the hotel in a bag.

"We are still in the process of finding more details about them. It appears they cheated several women by promising them a career in modelling," he said.

Sarkar and Dasgupta had checked into the hotel on February 5.

The two would leave around 10am every day and return in the evening, at times with women, the police claimed.

"When hotel officials called on their phones, someone else would take the calls. Often, the phones would remain switched off," the North Port police station officer said.

The police have learnt that the two went around the city cheating several people, including women, between February and April.

They would call these people for screening tests with the promise of a career in modelling.
