The Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority has decided to set up an ecological and bio-diversity park on a 100-acre plot in Mandarmani.
The authority had planned to build cottages and tourist lodges at the beach resort about a year ago. But by the time it got the land, the DSDA realised that the sea had moved inwards.
The area meant for the cottages now fell in the no-construction zone under the coastal regulations.
“During her last trip to Digha on November 25, chief minister Mamata Banerjee had given her consent to set up an ecological and bio-diversity park at Mandarmani. Accordingly, we approached the urban development department in the first week of December for 100 acres,” said the authority’s executive officer, Sujan
Dutta.
He added: “Mandarmani is a popular beach resort among tourists. But it does not have facilities for amusement. So
we have decided to set up the ecological and bio-diversity park here. Once we get the land, we will go ahead with he project.”
