A Barasat fast-track court on Tuesday ruled that an officer of Madhyamgram police station would be imprisoned for seven days if he failed to produce the case diary of a molestation case at the next hearing.

Muktinath Mondal, the judge of the third fast-track court in Barasat, also showcaused the officer, sub-inspector Dipankar Saha, for ignoring eight times the court’s order to produce the case diary.

Judge Mondal has been hearing a case registered with Madhyamgram police station, related to alleged molestation of a woman at Natunpally by her brother-in-law on May 15. The accused is in custody in connection with the case.

The judge ordered Saha, the investigating officer in the case, to produce the case diary eight times. But the officer failed to do so.

When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, the defence lawyer drew the judge’s attention on the investigating officer’s failure to produce the case diary despite repeated orders.

The judge then showcaused the officer and said Saha would be imprisoned for seven days if he failed to appear in court with the case diary and reply to the showcause notice at the next hearing on August 14. Senior officers of the police station refused to comment on judge Mondal’s ruling.
