The family of television actor Ronnie Chakraborty, whose body was found in a pond near his Santoshpur home on May 16, has lodged a murder complaint.

Ronnie, 33, had left home on the night of May 15 and a resident had seen him enter the pond.

His father, father-in-law and wife met joint commissioner (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh on Monday and filed a murder complaint.

"Ronnie Chakraborty's family told me that they have written to Survey Park police station to start a murder case. An investigation has been started," Ghosh said.

"We had thought Ronnie had a heart attack. But the post-mortem report says there was no alcohol and he had choked to death. We suspect foul play," said Sudipto Chakraborty, the actor's father.

He also questioned the role of the two friends Ronnie was last seen with. "Why did they not raise the alarm when they saw my son drowning?" Chakraborty asked.

"The post-mortem report says no trace of alcohol was found in his body. Then why did the witness say he was drunk? We also have information that one of the persons who was with him that night had left home for a few days after that incident, raising suspicion," Ronnie's wife Anurupa has written in the letter submitted to Survey Park police station.

The letter mentions that the actor's clothes were found "neatly folded on the seat of his bike - something that doesn't go with Ronnie's character".

Senior officers at Lalbazar said they would launch a fresh probe following the family's allegation.

Ronnie, who had started his acting career eight years ago, was acting in the mega serial Jal Nupur on Star Jalsha. He had also acted in Boyei Gelo on Zee Bangla.
