Philips Home Appliances has introduced a new all-in-one smart cooking appliance, Philips OneChef, which is based on air fryer technology. The product was unveiled at an event in Mumbai.
The launch event, described as a ‘Chef’s Tasting Table’, was curated by chef Ranveer Brar and featured live cooking stations showcasing a range of Indian dishes. Brar, along with Gulbahar Taurani, managing director and chief executive of Versuni India, demonstrated how such appliances can be used to handle multi-step recipes more efficiently.
The Philips OneChef combines 33 cooking functions into a single unit, including air frying, stir frying, steaming and boiling. According to the company, the appliance uses its AmbiHeat technology to regulate temperature and distribute heat evenly across different stages of cooking. This is intended to maintain consistency in taste and texture, particularly in dishes that require precise heat control.
“This product says: ‘I cook what you cook. All of it.’ You don’t need 20 pieces of equipment to prepare a dish. What is Indian cooking? It’s about many processes coming together at the right time to create the right dish. Then you have to remember that the khana (food) from the south and north is different, in terms of complexity and ingredients. It took us one and a half years of trial to come up with this product; about two years to finish it,” said Brar.
Taurani spoke about how the product fits into Indian homes, even where space is limited. He said: “At Versuni, our focus has always been on understanding how Indian households actually cook and designing appliances that fit naturally into those routines. Indian cooking is incredibly diverse and often time-intensive, which is why solutions that simplify processes without compromising flavour are becoming increasingly important. With OneChef, we wanted to bring multiple cooking techniques into a single intelligent platform that makes everyday cooking more intuitive and efficient. It reflects our broader commitment to reimagining the modern Indian kitchen through innovation that is both practical and purposeful.”
Demand for air fryers continues to grow, especially among younger consumers. There are several YouTube and Instagram channels dedicated to recipes made using air fryers.
Alongside the product showcase, the event included a panel discussion on the future of home cooking. Filmmaker Farah Khan was present and spoke about the opportunities a product like OneChef offers. The conversation focused on how connected and intelligent appliances could influence everyday cooking, particularly as more consumers seek convenience without sacrificing culinary variety.
