A man allegedly attacked his former girlfriend with a knife at her home in Sahid Smriti Colony in Panchasayar over a dispute on Friday afternoon. Police identified the accused as Ashok Das, 30. The woman suffered 12 stab wounds, including a deep gash that could have affected her lungs, doctor said. The woman is being treated at a hospital off the EM Bypass. Das has been arrested.

Beaten to death

A 35-year-old man died after being allegedly beaten up by his neighbours — a woman and her son — for allegedly damaging their earthen oven. The incident happened at Nonadanga off the EM Bypass on Thursday night. Police said the mother and the son have been booked under IPC sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

1 injured after bus hits bike

A bus hit a motorcycle at the Bypass-Bagmari Road crossing on Friday morning injuring the motorcyclist, police said. Sushanta Kumar Mandal, 32, a resident of Behala, has been admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with multiple injuries. The bus has been seized and the driver arrested.

Shanty on fire

A fire broke out in a shanty in Anandapur off the Bypass on Friday evening. Three fire engines were used to douse the flames.

Bus with students hits bike

A bus carrying school students allegedly hit a motorcycle on Harish Mukherjee Road on Friday morning. A 23-year-old woman who was riding pillion fell on the road, police said. She was treated at SSKM Hospital. The students in the bus were from a school in Behala. They were shifted to another bus before the errant vehicle was seized by officers of Kalighat police station.

Explosion deaths

Two men died and five were injured after an LPG cylinder exploded at Krishnapur village in Lalgola of Murshidabad district on Thursday evening. The injured are being treated at the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Police said the explosion took place when an employee of the gas agency tried to connect a new LPG cylinder to the oven.

Two killed

The driver and the cleaner of a truck died after the vehicle collided with another truck coming from the opposite direction on NH12 Bypass in Santipur, Nadia, around 3am on Friday. Police said one of the trucks had lost control and hit the other. A team from Santipur police station took the driver and the cleaner to Santipur State General Hospital, where they were declared dead. The driver and the cleaner of the other truck are being treated at another hospital for injuries. The accident caused traffic disruption for over five hours.
