A zebra and its newborn at Alipore zoo. The female foal, weighing around 25kg, was born on February 14 and has since been kept with its mother in a mini-shelter carved out of the zebra enclosure. Zoo keepers have named the baby Valentina. The baby has been running around her mother for most of the day, a zoo official said. Foals can start walking within a few hours of birth. “The mother and the baby are fine. But they will not join the herd before a week,” said a zoo official. The baby takes the zebra count at the zoo to seven, of which two are female. A ring-tailed lemur, brought from Visakhapatnam in November 2019, gave birth to two babies earlier this month, said an official
