Bhubaneswar, Oct. 31: Students of the National Law University Odisha are taking steps to sensitise rural college students about the importance of legal education.

A first such workshop was held at Dompara Anchalika Mahavidyalaya at Damapada.

The students staged a drama to generate curiosity among them about how law affects our daily life.

The initiative has been taken up as part of IDIA (increasing diversity by increasing access) project that aims to sensitise rural students to take up law as a viable career option and also acquire admission to National Law University. It also supports students in tuition fees and helps them survive the five years of a law school.

The team began by explaining about the necessity and role of law, which was depicted with the help of a short drama enacted by the students. The event consisted of a short play, highlighting the flaws of today's legal system. It also brought to light the importance of social responsibility in bridging the legal lacunae that exist today.

The play depicted crimes such as corruption, bribery and murder in order to show how these issues affect the people and society.

After the play, the team held an interactive session with the students of the college.

"We received appreciation from the students and teachers and the response was very positive," said Kamala Kanta Dash of the law varsity.

"It was a great experience The team as a whole created a buzz among the student community of the college," said Rahul Agrawal, a student.
