Bhubaneswar, April 26: Breathtaking photos of Odisha and her bountiful scenery and colourful people, are on display at the photo exhibition — U-expose — at the Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi gallery. The photographers, who hail from various walks of life, have displayed their views of the state through some stunning images.

Capturing the myriad hues of tribal life, many of the photographs showcase the colourful lifestyle of the tribal community members, especially tribal women.

Apart from celebrating social heritage, a number of images also highlight the existing economic backwardness. There are also refreshing images of the landscape and flora and fauna of the state. Traditional rituals, practical experiences and memorable moments have also been captured through the lens.

Visitors find a wide range of themes, techniques, colours and moods in the photographs that are the labour of love of 10 shutterbugs.

Old women praying during the holy month of Kartik clicked by Biswajit Patnaik makes for a touching picture. Some of the other photographs show smiling tribal women, confused looks on kids’ faces and a man standing on a balcony looking at a lake and its surrounding natural beauty.

Among other appealing photographs is Chinmay Majhi’s Vision 2020, where we see a man immersed in thought on a barren land against the backdrop of a building being constructed. Sanjib Sarangi’s tryst with wildlife photography in ‘Among the wilderness of Simlipal’ captures an Indian rock python in a mood to hunt.

Three of the displayed will be awarded on the concluding day of the exhibition.

“We had invited entrees for the photo exhibition and out of the 117 photographs we received, 43 were chosen and have been exhibited here. Sanjib Sarangi’s ‘The heaven on Earth — Odisha’, Nrapen Sipani’s ‘Getting Lost’ and Falguni Ray’s ‘Bliss’ have been chosen by our jury as the top three photographs,” said Twinkle Pattnaik, a member of the Cliquers photo club that has organised the exhibition. The jury included reputed photographers Goutam Buddha Mukherjee, Jugal Debata, P.C. Dhir and Sumon Sinha. There is also a viewers’ choice award.

“I loved the picture by Falguni Ray that shows a snake slithering on a sandy road. Most of the photographs are impressive. I wish they had been well framed and displayed in sequence,” said college student Ritik Bose.

The exhibition is on till April 30.
