Barak badminton

Hailakandi, Jan. 24: Jayanta Madhav Saikia of Assam University won the men’s singles title in the 16th Barak Valley Badminton Competition organised by Barak Valley Badminton Association at the Silchar District Sports Association indoor stadium from January 17 to 23.

In the final last night, Saikia defeated Jagajjyoti Rajkumar of India Club 22-20, 21-17 for the title.

In the women’s singles, Rumi Sinha of Silchar won the title defeating Sudipta Sinha 21-14, 10-21, 21-17.

The Karimganj pair of Kishore Das and Hritabrata Paul lifted the men’s doubles trophy, defeating Joydeep Paul of Silchar and Jayanta Madhav Saikia of Assam University.

Amit Saha of Karimganj won the under-16 boys’ singles title defeating Saroj Lingu of Silchar.

In the under-14 boys’ singles, Subhrajyoti Sinha of Cachar defeated SNEO Singha of Panchgram Central School.

Mrityunjoy Biswas of Silchar defeated Raja Deb of Club Son of India for the veteran singles crown.

In the media doubles, Debashis Shome and Pradip Paul of Barak Television Network won the title defeating Sivashis Bhattacharjee and Lalramsang Hmar pair of Mizoram Post 22-20, 15-21, 21-14.

Bitihutra Sinha and Jyoti Laskar were adjudged the most talented boy and girl players of the meet.

Silchar MP Kabindra Purkayastha gave away the prizes.

Memorial football

DSA Kakching is organising the 10th N. Bhubon Memorial State-Level Invitation Football Tournament 2014 from January 27 to February 7 at Kakching ground.

Twelve teams will participate in the tournament, including NISA, TRAU, NEROCA, ESU and MPSC.
