A Tripura BJP leader has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to declare a state of emergency in the country to fight coronavirus. Prasenjit Chakraborty, a former state BJP spokesperson and founder of Janajagaran Mancha, an NGO, in his letter lauded the steps taken by Modi. He felt it was necessary to initiate emergency-like initiatives to provide food to the poor citizens. The letter, written on Thursday, was circulated to media on Friday.

Teen quarantined

A 19-year-old boy from Roumari here been advised to home quarantine for 14 days after he was suspected of having coronavirus by doctors at Boko hospital in Kamrup district on Friday. The boy returned from Chennai on Thursday. He has no specific symptoms at present. Health workers will follow up regularly.

Police on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly selling medicine to cure Covid-19.

Wife, lover held for cop murder

Bongaigaon police have arrested the wife and her boyfriend in connection with the murder of a police constable in the district on March 9.

Karunakanta Roy was posted at North Salmara police station and his body was recovered from Sonakhuli under Abhayapuri police station. Roy’s first wife reportedly lived near the incident site.

Bongaigaon superintendent of police Singha Ram Mili told reporters on Thursday: “Sohila Narzary is the second wife of the constable and was absconding for the past few days. We arrested Sohila and her boyfriend Sansula Narzary from Basbari in Kokrajhar district.”

According to the police, Sohila murdered Roy with the help Narzary and two hired killers.

“The motive behind the murder was to clear the obstacle in their illicit affair and grab Roy’s properties. Roy was first hit by a car driven by Narzary at Sonakhuli and when he fell down, the hired killers stabbed him with sharp weapons,” the officer said.

The police have seized the car used in the murder. “We are hopeful of arresting the other two accused in the case soon,” he said.

Condensed oil seized

A joint operation team of the Oil India Limited’s security department and police seized 660 litres of condensed oil, stolen from the firm, from a Maruti car at Padumoni under Duliajan police station in Dibrugarh district on Friday morning.

Sources said the thieves fled the spot on seeing the team reaching.
