Activist breaks fast
Sampurna Kranti Sangharsh Vahini activist Ram Raj broke his seven-daylong fast-unto-death, on the issue of starvation deaths in Lesliganj block of the district, on Monday. he strike was ended after deputy commissioner Siyaram Prasad Sinha met Raj and his two fasting associates - Gora Devi and Santosh Kumar Jaiswal - at Sadar Hospital campus in Daltonganj. The trio was shifted to the hospital after being arrested by Lesliganj police at 5 am.
The Ramakrishna Mission Tuberculosis Sanatorium will organise a two-day Jagatdhatri puja in Tupudana locality from November 2. According to the organising committee, the puja has regularly been organised since 1958 and over 20,000 devotees turn up every year. Religious discourses, devotional songs and other cultural programmes will be special attactions at the puja.
The Ranchi branch of Indian Institute of Homeopathic Physicians held a meeting to condole the death of noted homeopathy doctor Krishna Gopal Saxena. Saxena was awarded Padmashree in 1979. He was also a member of the homeopathic advisory committee of the Central government. He died at his Delhi residence on October 23. He was 91.
Aid for elders
The students of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School in Ranchi have collected Rs 70,170.25 on behalf of voluntary organisation Helpage India to help needy old people living in different parts of the country. The organisation fully depends on donations. Therefore the students were motivate to fight for the cause. Students also donated old uniforms, books, tiffin boxes and school bags to the state council for child welfare.
BJP leader dies
lSenior BJP leader Lalit Oraon, described as the "grand old man of the party in Jharkhand”, died in the capital on Monday. Oraon, 70, was cremated with state honours at his native village, Potro, in Sisai. Known for his integrity and unflinching commitment to the cause of the poor, Oraon is survived by wife, three daughters and a son.
Water resources minister Ramchandra Kesri and Jharkhand Hill Area Lift Irrigation Corporation chairman Seraj Ahamed Ansari laid the foundations of several minor irrigation projects in Garhwa district on Saturday.
