2019 could be called a year of restaurants for the steel city. Around 15 restaurants opened doors in Jamshedpur in one year, signifying the city was always ready to eat out.

From restaurants with a focus on food to theme restaurants, Jamshedpur has seen an explosion of food joints.

According to Jamshedpur Hoteliers’ Association there are already some 100 hotels (that also have fine dining restaurants).

Owner of the Dasaprakash franchisee in Jamshedpur Naveen Agarwal said he wanted to open this franchise after eating at a Dasaprakash restaurant in Delhi. “I liked the food, ambience, everything, so thought why not bring it to my city?” he said. “I felt there was a need for more vegetarian restaurants here.”

For many, eating out is an experience, a status symbol. Cashing in on this, food becomes one of the safest business verticals to invest in, said Amitesh Narayan, owner of Up N Above, a new restaurant at Marine Drive. “Be it weddings or birthday parties, many want to offload these responsibilities to a hotel or a restaurant and that’s why it is a good investment.”
